The simple answer is no. Carnival Cruise Line no longer allows passengers to carry on any beverages contained in plastic bottles. I have not heard any specific reason cited by Carnival, but my suspicion leads me to believe this rule change is related to passengers sneaking alcohol on board the ship inside plastic water bottles. This was especially easy with clear alcohol such as vodka and there are loads of YouTube videos and alcohol smuggling hacks on the Internet involving plastic water bottles.
So now that you know that you can’t bring your own bottle water on board your ship, what should you do? There are two viable alternatives to bringing your own water on board. I would suggest purchasing bottled water from the Fun Shops on board your ship or bringing a reusable water bottle.
Fun Shops
You can purchase bottled water from the Fun Shops on board your ship while on board or prior to sailing. The water will be delivered directly to your stateroom for your convenience. I always pre-purchase a 12-pack of bottled water and it is there waiting for me in my stateroom upon arrival. This option is extremely convenient, and I find that it is worth the price. The current prices at the time of publication are as follows.
12-Pack of 16.9 oz bottles: $4.95 1 Large 50.72 oz bottle: $3.95 8-Pack large 50.72 oz bottles: $20.00
If you forget to pre-purchase your water or you happen to drink it all, you can order more water from the Fun Shops while on board. There is no up-charge for ordering while on board. You will pay the same price on board as you would if you had pre-purchased your water.
I would suggest ordering the 12-pack of bottled water. If it is not enough, you can always order more at the same price. If you do not consume all the water you have purchased, you are permitted to take it off the ship with you during debarkation.
Re-Usable Water Bottle
Another viable option is the re-usable water bottle. Many cruisers bring their own re-usable water bottles to be used both on and off the ship. The water on board your ship is safe for consumption just like the water in cities and towns on land. You can refill your water bottle in your stateroom or in buffet and lido deck areas on board your ship. There is an unlimited supply of free drinking water on tap in these areas 24 hours per day for your convenience. You may even choose to fill your bottle with complimentary iced tea or lemonade instead.
I hope you have found this information helpful. If you would like to learn more about bringing alcohol and other beverages on board your ship, please read “Bringing Your Own Drinks On Board Your Cruise.”
